On the way to the Antarctic

My photo was taken on the way to the Antarctic from the Falklands Islands

Bransfield, is a ship belonging to the British Antarctic Survey. Here you can see it pushing its way through the ice heading for Antarctica from the Falkland Islands, a journey that will have taken 2 – 3 weeks. The people on board are going to Ice Station Halley, which is one of two British Stations on Antarctica. You can see sea ice in the foreground and the edge of an ice sheet behind the ship.

This photo was sent in by Linda Hack from St. Edward’s Middle School, and taken by her brother Steve Marshall who is based in the Antarctic.
