I teach geography at Staffordshire University.
I have lived and worked in Britain and the United States. I went to university in
Dublin and then got my PhD from Syracuse University in upper New York State. Syracuse was
a large geography department and had people from all over the world who went there to
study for MAs and PhDs.
I particularly liked geography because it seemed to deal with a
great many interesting issues and allowed me to learn about various different places.
Perhaps this explains why I have travelled a lot in the past, especially in the United
States, the Caribbean and Latin America. I still really enjoy teaching and learning about
geography although some of the topics I study now are very different than those I started
studying at A level and at University! One of the topics I am researching now is about
food production and distribution. Some of its main themes are outlined on the special projects page.
