They should include women artists where possible. Always buy resources in relation to planning needs, do not just rely upon publishers visits to schools, the remainders shops or commercially produced sets of work. It is harder to design around resources for which there may be little staff/pupil interest, than it is to properly resource your planning, although there may be financial constraints to doing this well in the short term. The lists below are not definitive, but attempt to cover each aspect in chronological order as a basic focus.
