How to get better at writing geographically 

Jean George at Hagley Park High School and Jon Clarke at Cannock Chase High School together with Peter Davies from Staffordshire University used Best Practice Research Scholarships to develop a method of helping KS3 students to understand different levels of attainment in geographical writing. 

This improved understanding was generally reflected in improved levels of pupils’ work. The model developed has proved to be a useful diagnostic assessment tool for teachers to inform planning on a day to day basis.

A ‘model’ was developed for describing progression in pupils’ written descriptions and explanations.  They would like to know what you think.
