No trip is complete without a group photo
taken in an appropriate setting; here we are with the Petronas
Towers behind us! (RGJ) |

Typical Malaysian market at Serian, with a
wide variety of fish, spices, fruit and vegetables. (RW and RGJ and

Not everything in the market was
appealing! (CC) |

While it is not so surprising these days
to find "westernised fast food outlets" almost everywhere,
the mock Tudor architecture of the buildings looked strage in the
small town of Serian. (CC) |

Logging; there are very strict controls
now about the quantity of trees which can be cut down (CC) |

Batang Ai river was flooded in 1985 to
create the region's first HEP plant. This was controversial because
it destroyed 10 longhouses and damaged flora and fauna. Now it
provides a waterway access to Nanga Sumpa. (CC) |

|
You've left your head lights on! We were
asked to bring torches as there is no electricity at Nanga Sumpa.

The group split up for a meal one evening
in Kuching; the "veggies" went to a Chinese restaurant;
these are some of the rest of the group enjoying their meal (and
beer!) at a fish restaurant. (CS) |
