Why do we do it?

Until 1995, Blythe Bridge High School sixth form geographers enjoyed their fieldweek in Northeast Yorkshire based in Whitby, interspersed with occasional weeks in South Devon.

Then by chance, we fell into a fortuitous conversation with Steve Allcock of Leek High School at Geography computer training day.

“Why not do fieldwork in Malta”, he said, “it’s great!”

He was right!

Some advantages have been:

Recruitment has risen from 7 students in 1992 to 36 entered for 2001.

Exam results have improved from 5.1 average A level points in 1992 to 7.15 in 1999. In fact, the year 2000 average points score is estimated to reach 8!
