Japan 2 - traditional and modern at the same time

All photographs can be used in any teaching and learning context in a school but cannot be used for any other purposes.

	2.1 How do you explain these two images from the same country?
	2.2 One neon and glass
	2.3 Another traditional and wooden
	2.4 One more modern, metal and concrete
	2.5 They are both from the region of Kansai, the largest city is Osaka
	2.6 and the traditional historic capital of Kyoto.
	2.7 Meet a little girl who is off to school. What a smile.
	2.8 Meanwhile her little brother and mother go to the local supermarket.
	2.9 At home in a flat, mother and daughter relax and play.
	2.10 People eat out and at home.
	2.11 Out for a meal are around a low table.
	2.12 Baseball is the national sport along with sumo.
	2.13 A trip to the temples of Kyoto is traditional.
	2.14 And so to traditional temple to take the waters complete with sterilizer in the background.
	2.15 Gardens are places of contemplation.
	2.16 UK bear made famous globally by US cartoon company
	2.17 A festival inspires floats - paper lanterns and neon in the same shot.
