| We would like to compile a list of school geography department web sites so if you feel yours is worth a look, please let us know. They are not meant to be perfect but the result of honest endeavour of geography teachers and their students. David Gardner has created some very useful hints and tips on developing geography websites - follow the Teachers links from Raincliffe School's website. There is also support for creating and maintaining your school website from BECTa |
Here are some to look at to get you started:

Congratulations to Peter Humphries of St John Nelthorpe School, Brigg
Those of you in the Avery Hill Network will know Peter. He deserves this BECTa award.
Peter was instrumental in setting up his own school site http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/nelthorp/room8/intra/geograph/intro.htm and of course www.averyhill.org.uk
Andrew Skelding has just launched Endon High School's Geography site. It has some excellent features. Andrew has incorporated many features of this site and as far as I am concerned, that is what this site is for. Well done. He is planning to feature lots of pupils' work - celebration is a key purpose of a school's website.

Andrew Stacey from East Bergholt High School, Suffolk at www.stacey.peak-media.co.uk. It has a fair number of photographic resources for geographers, as well as serving the needs of the students at my school. I enjoyed the pebblemeter and the combination of your images of the coast etc. and the aerial photographs from Suffolk. like the way you are creating self-study material for students to use at home - and advice docs for students to improve.
Chae Cruickshank of Archbishop Sancroft High School Norfolk suggests we have a look at the Norwich School Geography Depatment website for its fieldwork images, interactive elements and just overall professional design.
Moira Walker and Amanda Hayler from Chelmsford County High School have this site which is very good for fieldwork and coursework as well as links for the units of their syllabi.
The internet is a wonderful source of information and inspiration for geographers. This web page was designed by Graham Russell to help students at Bishop Heber High School, Malpas, Cheshire,U.K. find useful sites to help them with their studies, but because this is the World Wide Web it's available to everyone!
Marple Hall School
Kevin Foster has asked friends of SLN Geography to check out the Marple
Hall School geography website. It is well designed with a clear structure
and has some good friendly text to encourage pupils to use the web
effectively.
Coopers Company and
Coburn School,
The Humanities faculty website from this London school is mainly
aimed at pupils and parents. It has just been restructured by Ahmir
Ahmad, a Y10 pupil in conjunction with the Head of Humanities, Mr. Chapman.
There are some particularly appropriate features for geographers,
including fieldtrips and photo albums and an Encyclopaedia
Humanica which looks interesting'
St.
Margaret Ward RC High School, Stoke-on-Trent
Matt Amison has created a website for his
department which has been in existence since April 2000 and has developed
rapidly into a very useful teaching and learning tool (mostly through
useful links to other sites). There are also pages about their many
fieldtrips, with extensive help and useful resources for pupils studying
geography in
all year groups. A particularly with
exemplary feature of this site is a virtual trip round the geography
department and a glimpse at their display work.
St.
Peter's High School, Stoke on Trent
We particularly like the kids
work (look at Y9!!) Congratulations! There are some photos of
Festival Park, Stoke-on-Trent
Woodhouse High
School, Tamworth
Jason Wood and other colleagues have developed a site clearly laid out
links - for different subjects. They have some superb aerials of The
Trent in flood in November 2000. The virtual quarry tour and the
rainforest roadshow are featured.
Emerson Park School, Havering web site has a section on their geography curriculum. It is an example of how to add value to descriptions of what a school does and involve the parents. They use scale concepts throughout our site to reinforce the geographical messages. They contrast a satellite image of our site with a vertical air photograph and challenge our visitors to relate these to maps at a wide variety of scales. Thanks to Dave Taskis for sending this in.
Alleynes High
School, Stone
Bob Jones and his team have developed a site clearly laid out and is
also in development. http://www.alleynes.staffs.sch.uk/geography/Geography%20Home%20Page.htm
Hampstead School where
Noel Jenkins, friend of SLN geography has created a rich site about his
department. http://www.geography.ndo.co.uk/
He has also done a trawl of weblinks at: http://www.cleanslate.co.uk/
