How to get better at writing geographically 2

Pauline Marsden, Sandon High School, Julie Dale, St John Fisher RC School, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Jon Clarke at Cannock Chase High School together with Peter Davies from Staffordshire University used Best Practice Research Scholarships to develop  further the method of helping KS3 students to understand different levels of attainment in geographical writing. The model in year one was found to work with higher ability pupils but how did we make it work for lower ability pupils.

A ‘model’ variation has been developed for describing progression in pupils’ written descriptions and explanations. The main conclusion was that examples used needed to be specific.  The written descriptions were simplified.
