Elford, Staffordshire 01.11.2000 When roads become rivers....Match the photo with the caption.Roger Thompson sent these images recent floods at Elford - it's a small village off the A513 alongside the Tame. The floods were caused by the culvert that passes under the main street in the village being unable to discharge into the Tame because of it's height.
1.This was the view from the hill looking towards Tamworth across the Tame valley, or lake as we came to know it! 2.Sue takes a few tentative steps into the river that used to be the Beck. Croft Close is in the far distance on the left! 3.At the working men’s club by the sea it’s not only the beer that’s watered! Yes, the water really was this brown. Fancy a picnic? 4. The Beck, looking from the main road into the village. The water was about half a metre deep at it’s deepest point. 5.It was a great opportunity for the local kids to boat up and down the main street, helping those who were cut off by the flood. 6.This is Croft Close. The water came right up to the end of our road, stopping about 30m from our driveway. Bungalows at the end of the road were evacuated. 7. Rain running down the hill at the bend before Elford quickly washed away the river bank and undermined the road. Questions or problems regarding this
