The day Burton- upon- Trent nearly became Trent upon Burton!  Staffordshire 08.11.2000

Roger Thompson of John Taylor High School sent these dramatic pictures of just how close it came to Trent upon Burton. Click to reveal a larger image.  

1. The old suspension bridge at Burton, now only approachable from the Stapenhill bank.

2.. It was heavy underfoot on the rugby pitches!

3.Water as far as the eye could see from the Stapenhill road bridge - and the flood peaked the day before!
