Geography and ICT

It dawned on me recently that really this SLN website does not have much on about using ICT in geography! OK, its got lots of digital resources for teachers like Geo-images, 7-11 weblinks, information on GIS and PowerPoint presentations which teachers use with their classes, but there is little to support embedding pupils' use of ICT apart from the WebEnquiries and the Geo Photo Enquiries. This page attempts to rectify this! Your contributions are welcome!

KS3 ICT supporting geography pack

This contains example geography lesson materials (lesson plans and all related resources) produced for the KS3 / Secondary National Strategy. They are supplementary and complementary to the original DfES ICT across the curriculum: Geography guidance. There are 5 downloads on the following topics, Geography in the News, Traffic Congestion, Geomorphology, Comparing Countries and Investigating Environmental Hazards. They can be used as they are or adapted to your individual circumstances. All are here.

ICT for Key Stage 1 and 2

ICTOPUS is a new on-line service providing lesson plans and resources as well as interesting articles by teachers who share their ICT good practice, are to help you integrate ICT into all areas of the primary curriculum. BECTa ICT advice is well worth looking at. There are lesson plans and associated resources for each year group, many directly linked with popular primary topics. An index of all the geography lessons.

BECTa ICT for schools

Although the BECTa service is currently undergoing changes, there are useful links for primary geography and secondary geography.

NAACE (and MAPE)

NAACE is the professional organisation for ICT professionals. Their website has many useful links and materials. It hosts the curriculum support, and classroom activities which were formerly produced by MAPE, the primary working group which you can find here.
