Geography outside the classroom
Fieldwork is an essential element in geographical education and also has the potential for crossing other curriculum areas, such as maths, language and ICT. We are undertaking research in the county about fieldwork and geographical learning experiences outside the classroom. Schools All schools with KS1 and 2 pupils will be asked to complete a questionnaire / audit. Schools will invited to be involved in follow up work - volunteers required! Activities We are conducting an audit of current practice of geography outside the classroom - frequency, venues, activities, etc. We are exploring the potential problems associated with fieldwork. We intend to trial some further enquiry-based fieldwork activities with schools. Outcomes We will be creating a set of materials, including case studies, that enrich the learning experience of pupils, give guidance on over-coming the difficulties with fieldwork and promote good practice. Materials willbe published on the SLN, geography bulletin and in journals, and disseminated on QLS courses. Venues Various, including schools and chosen fieldwork locations.
