Literacy through Geography Key Stages 1 and 2

The Intention is to

  • develop strategies for improving literacy through geography.
  • create a set of stimulating and rich materials that enrich the learning experience of pupils.

The Schools involved are:

  • Walton Priory Middle, Stone
  • St. Mary’s Primary, Colton
  • Perton First, Nr. Wolverhampton
  • William Shrewsbury Primary School

 

Activities

The group have been:

  • creating exemplar lessons based on stimulating geographical texts, including those taken from newspapers and the Internet, showing progression in reading and writing.
  • considering integration of literacy within geography when planning.
  • creating a poetry anthology -  A Million dreaming degrees beyond the equator
  • NEW! A list of geographical big books for you to download in Word format. Click on the link with your right hand mouse button and select Save Target As.

 

The outcomes are:

Materials to be published on this website, the geography bulletin and in national journals, and disseminated on QLS courses.

Venues

Meetings will take place initially at Humanities Resource Centre or at Kingston Centre. Work will also be undertaken in participating schools.
