The Year 9 Course

 Module 1 - Natural Environments

We start year 9 with the module about Natural Environments. Here we first look at what factors affect weather and climate and look specifically at Britain's climate. We then look at three further areas, equatorial, desert and Mediterranean climates before seeing how each climate affects people, animals and plants.

 Module 2 - Natural Hazards

Our next module is very topical at the moment as two of the topics are in the news. The module is concerned with Natural Hazards such as Volcanoes and Earthquakes, what do they consist of and what happens when one takes place. At the moment Mt Etna is erupting and causing problems on Sicily. We also look at the Hazards of Global Warming, Soil Erosion and whoever heard of Willi-Willi's.

 Module 3 - Tourism

Our third module of year 9 looks at the subject of tourism. What does it consist of, how important it is and what are the problems and benefits it brings to people. We then look at the different types of tourism such as the National Parks and Tourism in Europe before concentrating on specific areas such as Majorca, Disneyland Paris and La Clusaz in the French Alps.

Module 4 - Italy, an E.U. Country

Our fourth module looks at the European Union and concentrates on one country - Italy. We look at what the E.U. consists of before concentrating on Italy. We look at its history, its geography and what makes up its character. We then look at the different regions of Italy and why they differ. Usually at this time you will be challenged to complete an assignment on one particular part of Italy.

 Module 5 - Mapwork

Again, traditionally at the end of year 9 we concentrate on improving mapwork skills. This has helped those who take geography as one of their year GCSE option subjects to gain excellent results
