Website of the month archive 2004November 2004: Census 2001
Staffordshire Census 2001 with a link to National Statistics on-line August/September2004: Thinking about spatial learning and new technologiesIAPAD site is not really for primary colleagues although there is a great description of cognitive spatial development of people. but there is something really very interesting for secondary and post 16 colleagues. It is a site which is looking at participatory bottom up decision making with 3D mapping tools including GIS. There are great case studies of people creating maps to look at sustainable development and quality of life issues across the world. There are case studies in National Parks, Watershed Management, Informal Urban Settlements. Now if you are wondering how to teach about it. This website could be combined with a resource for key stage 1/2/3 'Planning for Real' from the Neighbourhood Initiatives Foundation where you can build a model to liaise with your own school community and consult with people. See also our Geo-primary section where you can see what is involved. June July 2004 - WebbaviationYou need good aerials of landscapes, Interested in football - If you don't know this site then go directly to http://www.webbaviation.plus.com/Portfolio.htm These oblique aerials are great for landscape evaluation, settlement studies and urban patterns. The football ground that is on the home page can be found too. May 2004: Yann Arthus Bertrand

A geographer's photographer, a truly brilliant one.. |
| Thanks to Ian Murray for bringing us the possibility of high quality digital geography images. This is £25 worth spending. | |
| Ian has now created a site for teachers to
contribute and share their digital images. Many of the SLN geography
regulars are contributing. Why don't you? The more you put in the
more people will put in and the more you will get out.
Keep up the idea. It is a site in embryo and when it works it will be brilliant. |
| We need to listen to people talking about their lives. Broadband content is starting to come through. Video-clips of people involved in the places and issues we are studying are just what we need to brief pupils in getting into role and understanding authentic points of view. The Iraqi asylum seeker who felt he couldn't go out made me feel ashamed. | |
| Dominic argues about the Wind Farm in Cornwall and people talking about all sorts of geographical issues. Annis [below] is worried about large scale farming in Shropshire. | |
| This is bound to help discussion genre essays. It could be that we can create our own video clips and put them up on the web on our own websites. Why not get involved with the Drama department and find an issue near you. | |
| Your city will be represented, I hope. Phil from Stoke asks people not to knock his city If your firewall blocks out this content then complain. | |
| When you are studying Old Harry and Studland Bay make it real for pupils. It could be their Grandad. And tell your RE, Citizenship, English and Drama colleagues about the site. |

Alan Parkinson at King Edward VII School, King's Lynn runs this site - one of the many heads of subject who believe in sharing their hard work.
Spend some time at www.geographypages.co.uk - it is like all good sites well signposted but always full of surprises.
I am interested in Geo Blogs - a web geographical diary - I can really see young people on fieldtrips recording their perceptions of places they are experiencing for the first time. Check out previous
