These took place on 9th and 10th March at the Kingston Centre.

The evaluation forms and comments were very positive and it appears that everyone, including the speakers, exhibitors and seminar presenters had a most enjoyable and worthwhile event.

Primary Schools Conference 2004 - Seminars

SEMINAR SESSION 1 (9.55 - 10.20)
A KS2/3 Transfer: An opportunity to discuss the KS3 Strategy training material and the impact it has on Key Stage2/3 transfer. We will provide examples of how primary and high schools might approach this, with information given about record keeping and assessment.
D Digital Photography in Art: Colour Magic has many far more interesting abilities than standard drawing tools. This session will focus on some of the more advanced features and participants will digitally manipulate a photograph to produce a variety of artistic and creative effects.
G 2Simple Software: Looking for Literacy or Musing over Music? This session will provide an opportunity to find out how Developing Tray can be used with KS1 and KS2 children to enhance Literacy skills in a fun and motivational way. It will also offer ideas on how to use the new Music Toolkit to enhance traditional music lessons.
J LogIT: An easy to use data logger and software. A short demonstration of how you can use Explorer and LogIT lab software in your classroom. Remote and real time data logging for the novice!
M Russell Prue: An opportunity to delve into the world of Teachernet, and have access to the information and support you need as Educational Professionals as and when you need it.
P Crick Software - Clicker4: Software as a tool for literacy in the classroom. This session will show how easy it is to create writing support materials and talking books using Clicker4 and give an overview of the range of activities that are possible. The session will also look at Clicker books, Find Out and Write About.
SEMINAR SESSION 2 (11.25 - 11.50)
B QCA Unit 6D: An opportunity to see how Unit 6D can be delivered in school, including the integrated task. This seminar will provide an example of how one high school has used this and other units to link to their primary schools in order to aid a smooth transition between key stages.
E Digital Video: The use of Digital Video in the primary classroom has been proven to have a wide range of educational and motivational benefits. Is it time for your school to take the plunge? In this session participants will explore some of these benefits, look at examples of produced work and have an introduction to the features of Microsoft Movie Maker 2, a free downloadable digital video editing package (works with Windows XP only)
K Stephen Heppell: An opportunity to discuss further some of the projects in which Stephen and UltraLab are currently involved.
N Interactive Whiteboards in Staffordshire: Using the impact of IWB's on teachers and teaching and learning, this seminar will inform people to the aims of appropriate use of IWB's in the classroom. It will explore the way forward from the pilot and the extension initiative in Staffordshire.
Q Crick Software - ClozePro: The seminar will show how cloze activities can cover all areas of the curriculum and offer rich opportunity for language development.  ClozePro is a tool teachers can use in the classroom to explore text with children and create instant cloze activities at widely differentiated levels.

C Using Software on Interactive Whiteboards: This seminar will take a look at how generic curriculum software such as Clicker, Textease, Talking First Word and Colour Magic can be used with an interactive whiteboard. This session will provide suggestions for teacher-led activities and interactive learning.
F ICT in Drama: An opportunity to explore the creative possibilities of using ICT to enhance Drama activities within National Curriculum English; Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing. Engage in activities that show how ICT can enrich activites such as role-play, freeze-frame, thought-tapping and conscience alley and aid the entire dramatic process of Making, Performing and Responding.
H Kar2ouche:This seminar will illustrate how the Kar2ouche environment helps students to develop contextual understanding, critical interpretation and individual expression through a wide range of cross-curricular creative activities including interactive role-play, picture-making, storyboarding, animation, publishing and movie-making.
I Robolab: Control technology made easy. In this short session you will understand how to use AND program LEGO control models. Controlled by, but remote from, the computer Robolab is an icon-based easy to use programming environment with 8 levels for progression and differentiation.
L Catherine Foley: Following her presentation, Catherine will be happy to pursue delegates' questions in more detail.

A Tim Denning will take further questions relating to his Online CPD for teachers address.
B This is a short introduction to a complete ICT Key Stage 3 science resource for the introduction of data-logging into your science lesson, including a data logger, available on E Learning credits. Whether you are an experienced scientist wanting to introduce data logging for the first time or a non specialist science teacher, this session is worth a visit.

E The 'Blackboard in Schools' Project was launched in May 2003 as a follow‑on project from the successful GNVQ in ICT Project (2002-03).
Five Staffordshire High Schools have been using the Blackboard Managed Learning Environment to create and deliver sample e-learning courses.
