Welcome to the Staffordshire Schools’ Swimming Service Web Site! It is designed specifically for the Staffordshire schools and schools from the surrounding area which subscribe to the Staffordshire Schools’ Swimming Service. This Service is part of the Children and Life-Long Learning Section’s School Improvement Division. These are all confirmed now and have been emailed to all schools. Click on the link above for information about each pool. NOPs, EAPs and Child Protection Advice are listed for each pool. It is vital that all staff are aware of the details of the ones for the pool at which the school swims. Transport Contractors - all the contractors and their telephone numbers are listed here. Click on the above link for details of the contractors. For cancellations please contact the Swimming Service - eileen.cooper@staffordshire.gov.uk (01785 278905) and not the contractor. The Service Level Agreement is available to all Staffordshire schools which subscribe to the Service. The area is password protected and the appropriate password is emailed to the schools at the beginning of September. Major events! London Olympics 2012 WATER SAFETY/PERSONAL SURVIVAL AWARDS 1 and 2. Click on this link for details. Swimming is a statutory part of the Key Stage 2 Physical Education curriculum and it is a high risk activity. In practice, Headteachers are responsible for ensuring that the adults accompanying each group to the swimming pool have the skills, experience and expertise required to carry out the specified work. The Curriculum Programme area identifies some of the inherent risks and reiterates various sources of guidance. It outlines the roles of staff from schools and the role of the swimming instructor. It highlights the areas where there is a need for risk assessment and it details the opportunities available for professional development. More swimming courses specifically for adults other than teachers are being arranged around the County. There is a national commitment to ensure that pupils receive quality swimming lessons, not only for the safety of the pupils but also for their health and well-being. The skills of the accompanying adults play an important part in ensuring the quality of the lesson as these people will be required not only to take an active part in the lesson but also to supervise the pupils during the journey and in the changing rooms.
The Motivational Award Scheme has run successfully now for some years. New this year is the opportunity for schools to award Part Certificates - i.e. when pupils have achieved a few skill, the school can download a logo and award their own certificate. The Swimming Charter can be read or downloaded from www.teachernet.gov.uk and then search on Swimming Charter. Disability Discrimination - A brief guide to help teachers work within the Disability Discrimination legislation. Water Safety Talks - available to all primary schools. Ensure that you are covering the full national curriculum syllabus by booking a talk as soon as possible. Other items will be added! If you have a specific request for an item please contact Stuart Royle
