The River Euphrates is a historic river, very significant in Biblical history.

Today it rises in Turkey and flows through Syria into Iraq.  The Tigris-Euphrates Valley was the birthplace of the ancient civilisations of Assyria, Babylonia and Sumer.  The cities of Babylon and Ur were built on the river.  This was one of the rivers which flowed out of the garden of Eden (Genesis 2:14). It was also the region of the great Flood.  It was along this river that Abraham, father of Jews, Christians and Muslims, journeyed on his way to the promised land.
