Religious Education in Staffordshire
Religious Education is different!
Unlike most other subjects on the school
curriculum there are no
statutory arrangements or orders. What is
taught in RE is determined
locally, by the body known as the SACRE (Standing
Advisory Council on
Religious Education) and ratified by an Agreed Syllabus
Conference.

Staffordshire Schools,

Worship.

The
Agreed Syllabus.
This
updated version was issued to schools in the summer term of 2004.
Religious Education must be taught in accordance with the
Staffordshire Agreed Syllabus in all community schools. Foundation
and voluntary controlled schools must also follow the Agreed Syllabus
except where parents have requested denominational teaching.
The essential elements of the syllabus are contained in the inspection
digest (see below)
Voluntary Aided schools,
foundation and voluntary controlled schools with a religious character
are not required to follow the locally Agreed Syllabus.

Religious Education and
Spiritual Development in the Early Years
Guidance on good practice in the early years,
based on the Staffordshire RE process and with practical advice for
schools and settings.
This publication contains information about
the legal situation both locally and nationally. The
Staffordshire syllabus is clearly linked to the six areas of
learning and the early learning goals. There are sample plans
to give a starting point for Reception and pre-Reception age pupils. |

Religious Education in the Primary Years
A handbook to accompany the
Agreed Syllabus, this publication contains long and medium term plans
to support schools in constructing a scheme of work which will meet
legal requirements. The Plans are detailed but flexible, and easy to
use.
The Appendix to this document
was issued to Staffordshire schools in the spring term of 2004. This
gives differentiated objectives for each of the medium term plans
contained in the handbook. A boon to devising differentiated tasks,
and essential for manageable assessment.

Religious Education in Key Stage 3
The Secondary version of the
handbook, again with long and medium term plans to support schemes of
work. Differentiated objectives are already built in to the planning
in this document, making assessment for learning practical and
manageable.
